Globalization has produced many influences in many aspects such as society and language. And globalization can be defined as “the current status of the global economic, political, cultural, and environmental processes that are constantly changing with each other.” The main consequence of globalization is to increase the spread of languages so that everyone can get better and easier to connect with each other. Especially the language English. As we all know, English is becoming more and more common in the world. Furthermore, it has been estimated that “only one-fourth of all English users worldwide are native speakers, and most non-native speakers using English do so in the absence of native speakers.” Obviously, it can be seen that there are a large number of non-local people all over the world speaking English.
English is becoming the dominant language in the world. Is this a good thing? Yes, in the fields of science, business, etc., having a common language can greatly improve efficiency. But to put it another way, the dominance of English in the world is bad news for world literature. Why? Because if English dominates the world of publishing, apart from translation from English to other languages, few translations are commercially viable. Therefore, almost only those who write in English have the opportunity to reach the world audience and obtain “classic status”. Therefore, English as a global language may harm the production of world literature and make our situation worse in this respect.
At the present day, after the globalization of English, the use of English has undergone drastic changes, and it has become a project of economic value. It makes people aware of its impact on language and culture in every aspect of life. Even if there are pros and cons in globalized English, we can use English to promote our worldview and spiritual heritage around the world and use these languages to express our different cultures.
The New Social Mobility Ladder: English and its Use in Globalization
Language is the way people communicate with each other. Each nation and country has its own language, and language is one of the important characteristics of a nation. Chinese, English, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, and French are the main languages in the world and the main working languages of the United Nations. Although Chinese is the language with the most native speakers in the world, English is the most widely spoken language. English is also the fastest-spreading language in human history. About 175 million people around the world use English at a useful level. As globalization increases the spread of English and other world languages, there will be good and bad results, and the consequence of the widespread use of English is that many other languages are on the verge of extinction. English becoming the global lingua franca can undoubtedly promote economic development, but at the same time, it will also have a negative impact on the development of literature. In the field of literature, language is not just a daily communication tool. The original works transmitted between lines such as rhyme and suggestion may be lost in the process of translation. Obviously, one of the consequences of the globalization of English is the increase in the number of endangered languages around the world.
Globalization has almost become the main theme of the world today, and globalization has pushed the development of English to a new climax. Recently, as the international status of English has risen, there have been endless references to English. It seems that English has become the common way for countries to internationalize pass. In fact, as an integral part of globalization, understanding English is closely related to how to view globalization. In today’s world education system, English seems to be ubiquitous. The special status and important influence of English in the world have caused academic reflections. Many non-native English countries are vying to implement English language education, and some countries even use English as the medium of professional courses. Even China, South Korea, and Japan, which have long learned English as a foreign language, have advanced the start time of their citizens’ English education from middle school to elementary school. These measures make people feel that having English is internationalization. Few people will question what kind of Englishglobalization requires. It seems that “English” itself is an unquestioned concept. In fact, these ideas have overlooked an important reality, that is, English is also constantly evolving and changing while promoting globalization. Therefore, the discussion of English is not only a question of language teaching, but it is more necessary to regard it as a social phenomenon and place it in a broader theoretical framework of globalization for discussion.
In January-February 2020, there is an article in the International Journal of Novel Research in Education and Learning, English Language and Globalization, which also supported the same view. It tells the analysis of globalized English from various angles. English as a tool for economic success, English as a tool for cross-cultural communication, English is also a transitional stage or a common language in the past. Through the analysis of these three main dimensions, we will be able to establish the globalization of the cultural identity of the effects of English. Among them: “So that they can get a better job. In order to attain the better job of their dream it needs them to go through various challenging….. economically in the society by acquiring a better job (pg 7).” Mohammed Abdalla Abdalgane also believes that English has become a cross-1cultural communicative The media dominates business, science, popular culture, mass media, etc. in the world. This trend is further developed by English media technology and the Internet. It also allows people to accept the globalization of English in many ways. And how people’s lives have been improved after the globalization of English has brought people convenience.
Business Administration is an international business center that most needs and can use English to communicate. It will have this important factor for trade between countries and regions. And this related content is also mentioned in Prakash Babu Bodapati’s article: “In this global world English is the language of the latest business management…..communications that transcend geographical boundaries (Impact of Globalization on EnglishLanguage, paragraph 5).” he above shows that the business market and global English are2inseparable. Business English is the cornerstone of mutual trust between transaction parties. This shows the importance of English in daily and business. In view of the fact that each country has its own special features, the geographical conditions that are different from other countries, and the unique humanistic characteristics based on this have hindered the communication between the two sides, but the concept of professional English is consciously vague. With this invisible obstacle, it has become an ideal way of communication, which will also bring convenience to the country and enterprises.
The influence of globalized English is increasing. It has become the language of international communication, media, and the Internet. Learning English can enter a larger market and a wide range of communication channels to stimulate economic and social development. Therefore, learning English is useful for social, entertainment and It is important for work. For example from Anna Poggensee’s essay:” One student says “English is really not used in daily life in Senegal, but it is useful to get jobs and in the education system.” Another student agreed by saying that she needed English in her workplace and that some employers will only hire those who speak English. A faculty member adds “English is the most important language when seeking employment.” Apart from occupational, English also plays a role in education. A faculty member claims that “the primary function of English is for education, for your degree. The second function of English is for scientific purposes. There are research publications that are only available in English. Faculty members in the English department are often asked to translate student theses into English in order to get published.” The students agree that English has played a positive role in their education. (The Effects of Globalization on English Language Learning: Perspectives from Senegal and the United States pg 26).” Hence proved the accessibility of3English as a world language in education. In the United States, education and professional motivation are the prerequisite driving forces for learning English. Since most of the reasons for learning English are for education, life, and employment, it has also been concluded that English is used as a quick tool to achieve goals, rather than An oppressive behavior. In a society where globalized English will continue to affect our lives, we need to focus on understanding how language interacts and what impact this has on the expresser. More needed things will encourage educators and other professionals to appreciate the cultural diversity of language itself.
Whether it is ready or not, English is now the global business language. More and more multinational companies use English as a common corporate language—Nokia, Renault, Samsung, SAP, Technicolor, Microsoft, etc.—to try to promote communication and performance between geographically diverse functions and business efforts. With the popularity of English publishing, even if researchers’ mother tongue is not English, in order to increase the influence of their own research, they will choose to publish articles in English journals. Even some journals in non-English-speaking countries choose to publish in English to increase their influence in the global academic community. From this point of view, there is a close connection between language and national power.
Through the analysis and explanation of these examples, a theme, influence, and trend development of English globalization are explained to the masses of readers in every corner of the world. At the same time, globalized English affects all aspects of people’s lives. It also allows people to communicate in English across different races and languages on a global scale, and it also makes people’s lives more quality. Readers’ values may have different views on this issue, but everyone has their own ideas, and this issue has its own pros and cons, so there is no right or wrong. And my goal is also to tell readers what impact global English will bring to people and how important it is to our lives. English has now become the world language, with a large English vocabulary. It absorbs many words from many other languages, so this process will also be carried out in globalization. English has occupied the dominant language in the world, which also means that it will change people’s lives and bring us different pros and cons. Today, the development of globalization will cause people to accept differences and use different connotations. Ways, different vocabulary, etc… Now is also a good time to learn English. Everyone is exploring new languages and learning all kinds of knowledge at the same time. Only by mastering English can you better communicate with people from different countries and increase your own experience.
